Mr. Sunil Patil

Director

Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management

The ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) is creating substantial value add in almost every sector of the industry. These technologies have helped in improving productivity, efficiency, and quality of products and services to be delivered to the end users. The healthcare industry has been going through many reforms and changes in the western world but the quality of service has to be maintained at the highest level. This is creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs and the VAS (Value Added Service) providers who are working closely with the telecom service providers. New business models and working models are emerging which will create a win-win scenario for the key stakeholders in providing services like m-health.

Mobile devices have truly become the ubiquitous, distinctive impressions of the highly converged world that we live in today. The wireless technology has proven to have a lot of potential on how the healthcare will be defined and availed by the global citizens. The prospective of healthcare telecom spending to grow at an astounding pace has opened up a lot of opportunities in this segment. The mobile devices have shown promising usage as a portable medical device, a ‘pocket’ doctor, especially in the developing regions in the world. Countries like India, Africa, China, Brazil, etc. can take huge advantages with the advancement in m-health technologies and supporting applications to provide healthcare facilities to the less privileged at affordable rates. There is a need for investment in innovative platforms and newer, compatible devices, to convert the m-health opportunity into truly a revolution. Although there is still a lot of uncertainty about the concerns of reliable wireless networks and growing security concerns, this will be a collaborative industry to watch for in the coming years.

Communiqué 10- Asian Telecom Seminar, the flagship event of Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management (SITM), a constituent of Symbiosis International Deemed University, India caters to the dynamics of fast evolving telecom industry.
